Does Twitter follow its own rules?
02 September, 2010
This week, the famous hip-hop artist, 50 Cent, used his Twitter account to threaten murder, show pornographic images, and post messages full of racist, vulgar and defamatory language. All of his angry antics were viewed by his 3 million + followers, many of them children and teenagers who are avid fans. After all of that inappropriate behaviour, his Twitter account is surprisingly still active. This is just one of many examples in which a celebrity blatantly abuses their Twitter account, thus violating Twitter’s Terms of Service Agreement.
Twitter states that they strictly prohibit:
- Impersonation
- Trademark and copyright violations
- Threats and Violence
- Unlawful use
- Privacy violations
- Pornography
- Spam Abuse
Since most Twitter violators’ accounts remain active, it does make you wander who exactly is monitoring all of the millions of tweets that are posted every day. The answer according to Twitter is "nobody"!
Parents need to make sure that only those children of an appropriate age should be able to access social networking sites. With CYBERminder™ parents are back in control of what their children do and see online.
